Menu per Role

JacobLSmith.com

A personal website for Jacob that is used as his portfolio and resume for acting and theater.  Because Jacob's portfolio and resume changes over time, he has the ability to add his own pictures, music files, and even information to his resume in a very easy to use web interface.

  • Lightbox is used to give a nice interactive feature for visitors when viewing images.
  • A printable version of his resume is available.
  • Image Gallery's - various events or performances are grouped into photos and can be viewed like a photo album.
  • Audio clips can be listened to straight from the website.  No need to download the file first.
  • Links to YouTube videos (provided by Jacob) are played right in the website within an embedded video player.

DirtSurfers

This was a rewrite of the Cedar Rapids, IA area club website for DirtSurfers.org. It is built with Drupal to free the club officers and web administrator from having to update content manually. Now members can add content and pictures. Since this is a family friendly club, a concern of the club officers was to make sure inappropriate content was not added to the website.

Advanced features used:

  • Workflow - All content needed to be approved by editors to reduce the chance of inappropriate content being submitted. Using roles and workflow, new content was "routed" to editors for review where they could approve/deny it.
  • Pending User Accounts - Editors could see the new account requests and approve the users as well as assign them roles (club officer, editor, etc).
  • Menu per Role - Change what is displayed in the menus based on the role of the person. This is not implemented by default in Drupal, but it's easy to get working with the correct module.
  • Image Upload - Allowing authenticated users to upload images.
